Brian, also known as Hijinx, the New York City magician is best known for his hysterically funny and magic shows. He travels all over NYC (Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island) and Long Island for all types of events, including birthday parties. His children’s birthday party magic show features astounding sleight of hand, comedy, juggling and lots of audience interaction. He even does a trick with a live bunny too.
He’s one of the few magicians in New York who specializes in family shows. “There are a lot of children’s entertainers in New York City and Long Island who can keep the kids happy, but not many can get the parents laughing and applauding too. My goal is to entertain the whole family,” says Hijinx.

“I grew up in Brooklyn and started practicing magic when I was six years old. I worked in a magic shop in Coney Island when I was in high school and started performing all over New York City as a street performer in summertime. I took the act into comedy clubs all over Manhattan, Brooklyn and Long Island and started getting booked for parties,” he says. “New York magicians have so many places to perform. Some specialize in close-up magic for cocktail parties; others do walk-around magic at weddings and bar mitzvahs – but the majority still do kid’s parties.

“When I talk to my magician friends around the world they can’t believe the types of parties I get to go to. I’ve done magic for some of Gotham’s heavy hitters – from Wall Street zillionaires to movie stars and famous athletes," Hijinx says, "but I don't drop names."

Finding a magician in New York City isn’t tricky, but finding a great one can be a challenge. “I always advise clients to check references. I list a number of happy client testimonials on my Facebook page and can always provide more. But it’s important to match the performer with the audience. Some magicians are great with kids - but the parents can’t stand to watch. Others are amazing sleight of hand artists but they have no kid skills,” says Hijinx.
“I’m a father of four great kids and I’ve been entertaining children’s audiences all over New York City and Long Island since 1979. I started in high school, I’m just 45 – a kid myself!” he insists.
He’s a big, goofy man with a quick wit who works the crowd with all his energy. “I get everybody and I mean everybody into the act. Kids can be a tough audience if you don’t know what you’re doing. But I can entertain a party of three-year olds for an hour – something very, very few children’s entertainers can pull off,” he says.
When asked what makes him different than the scores of NY magicians he competes with Hijinx says, “It’s not the tricks. It’s not the props. It’s the way I engage the audience. We connect. The kids pay attention to me because I pay attention to them, I don’t expect them to sit there quietly. In fact I love it when a precocious child tries to upstage me. I make my show about the kids, about the uncles and aunts, about the cousins and friends. I make your guests the star of the show. I honor the guests and encourage them to be part of the magic.”
